Destruction Just Isn't Permanent Anymore

It came as no great surprise that last night's tribute to honorary Oscar recipient Robert Altman made no mention of his work behind the camera on OC AND STIGGS, the teen comedy based on a series of National Lampoon articles. I did find it interesting that Altman boasted how he'd never done a film that he wasn't intimately involved in the development of. According to the biography/career restrospective Jumping Off the Cliff, Altman initially expressed no interest in filming OC AND STIGGS and only became involved after other Hollywood heavy hitters started sniffing around the project. Frankly, that lack of enthusiasm shows in the finished product, which pales in comparison to the utterly monstrous, mind-roasting tale it's based upon.
