I had no idea that this past weekend's wretched-looking Jason Statham family-friendly actioner IN THE NAME OF THE KING: A DUNGEON SIEGE TALE was helmed by much-loathed (though not by me) director Uwe Boll. Frankly, I enjoyed the hell out of BLOODRAYNE and I have to admire anybody who has not one, not two, but SIX flicks in some state of production on his directorial slate. Steven Spielberg, in comparison, has half that and two of them sound really, really boring.
But KING didn't make much money over the course of its opening weekend (only $3 million against a $70 million budget) and SlashFilm is reporting that Uwe's days of big-budget mayhem may be coming to an end.
I think the bigger question is this: Who the hell is giving Uwe Boll $70 million to make a movie?!

Big Box Office for '300' Bodes Well for 'Watchmen' Fans
Early reports out of Hollywood had Zack Snyder's adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel '300' topping the $50 million mark. Apparently, those reports were too humble. '300' – which is sans stars and might have the worst title ever – is going to gross $70 million-plus, most ever for a March opening.
While I'll admit I don't have a burning desire to see '300', I'm a big fan of Snyder's take on DAWN OF THE DEAD and was intrigued that the largely unheralded director was being given the reins to Alan Moore's epic work 'The Watchmen.' Though no casting has been announced, I'm hoping the boffo box office for '300' gets Snyder the stars and budget to make an adaptation of that comic classic work.
