Wiseman to Direct ESCAPE Reboot

UNDERWORLD franchise director Len Wiseman has been tapped to direct the new version of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK starring 300's Gerard Butler as Snake Plissken. Wiseman also directed this summer's LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD (which has grossed $130 million in the States alone).

Usually, I don't get that worked up about remakes anymore because I usually don't watch them. I have my vastly superior originals, but this one hits me in a place that I can't ignore. I didn't see Die Hard but the impressions my friends gave me were somewhere between "it's not bad" to "hire a script consultant to at least get the hacker talk right".

I also despise Underworld. I've sat through some really, really awful movies and I couldn't make it through more than 40 minutes. In a world where vampires and werewolves try and kill each other (for some reason), everyone has european accents of unknown origin and speaks to each other in terse, short, angry tones.

Nothing good could possibly come of this remake. Nothing. It's unnecessary.

God damn it!

Can't say I disagree with you much Bryan. ESCAPE is way up on my list of favorite flicks and remaking it, without Kurt!, just seems wrong. Didn't like UNDERWORLD either. Never bothered with the second one.
