Judge for Yourself

I posted the link to the SPEED RACER photos yesterday, most of which appear to have been taken directly from the trailer that premiered last night. From some of the comments I've read it's definitely polarizing, with some folks saying it looks fantastic and others commenting that it's destined to be worse than the ROLLERBALL remake.

Me? I fall strictly in the "This May Be the Worst Movie Ever Made" category. I'm not even sure who the audience is for a G-rated (?!) 'Speed Racer' adaptation that looks like a video game. I can't imagine kids are going to go ga-ga for it (since none of them know or care who Speed is) and – as a huge SR fan – I'd rather stay home and watch the old cartoons than look at John Goodman in a horrific dye job.

In all honesty I grudgingly admire the Wachowski Bros. for attempting to bring a new visual style to audiences, I just wish they'd done it with a beloved piece of somebody else's childhood.

But judge for yourself.

It looks a bit goofy. But, you know what, I'll probably still give it a chance. Seen some garbage in my day.

Yeah, I've seen way more than my fair share of garbage, too. I just have to pick and choose a bit more judiciously these days. I'll take the CRANK sequel over SPEED.

By the way, I dig your blog... definitely bookmarked for daily reading!

Cool. Glad you like the blog. Hope to see you around those parts. I'll be checking back here as well.

Jezus H Christ! I think I vomited in my mouth a little after watching the trailer. I knew that the live action Speedracer film might have some problems, but after watching the trailer I was amazed to discover a movie could look worse then the Josie and the Pussycats movie or Scooby Do. I'm so effin sick of producers & directors raping my happy childhood memories. Damn them all to hell! The Wachowski Bros. clearly were not fans of the original show and have no love for it. Their film looks like an abomination.

Looks like we agree on this one Cinebeats, though I've been taking some heat in other groups for my staunchly anti-SR stance. Glad I'm not alone.

But, no love for JOSIE & THE P'CATS? Dang, I love that silly ass flick. I expected nothing and fell head over heels in love.

I think I've calmed down a bit (breath, breath damn it!), but honestly, how could anyone think the Speedracer movie looks good? This means that people will continue to pay to see crap like this and more and more "remakes" and "re-imagines" will go on and on until nothing is left to destroy...

I know a lot of people who liked the Josie film, but I'm afraid not one of them. The only thing I can remember about the movie at this point is all the product placement. It seemed like the film was basically an ad for various products with some kind of plot wrapped around it. The cast, the music, etc. was completely forgettable, at least for me anyway.
